The player who has the next highest hand is said to call.
Players may also fold, which is similar to checking. A player may fold if he or she does not want to make a bet or if he or she does not believe that he or she has the best hand. A player who folds is said to drop. When a player has been dropped, that player may no longer compete for the pot.
