A Short Guide to Fashion
Fashion is a unique form of autonomy and self-expression in a certain context and at a certain time and in a certain context. The word “fashion” means a style defined by the fashion business as what is fashionable at a given time. Fashion is also a field of specialization that studies the construction and social meaning of the self in relation to fashion, ethnicity, power, and beauty.
The first thing that one needs to know about fashion is that it is not simply about dressing up or wearing clothes to impress others. Fashion is an art, a way of looking at the world, at your body, at your appearance, and determining how you fit into it, and then defining what you are able to do with that in order to make you look stylish. In a very simple sense, fashion can be described as an insight into the creative impulse, and a vision of one’s own being. It is also about using clothes, jewelry, and accessories to transform oneself from within.
The history of fashion is quite vast. Fashionable things change almost on a daily basis: there are trends, fads, new looks and innovations all the time. The history of fashion is therefore the history of change. The beauty and importance of fashion, therefore, cannot be understood in terms of the simple mechanics of change, but rather in terms of social and aesthetic considerations. This is why many fashion scholars still consider fashion to be such an important and interesting subject.
